It’s had some great reviews in the UK: ‘This is a lovely book with enough twists and turns to keep me engaged with the characters The author had a real knowledge of Paris and brought it to life for me. All in all a beautifully descriptive book with sound research and a twist at the end!‘ Diana
I read this in one sitting, I was fully invested and engaged throughout. The story is told from two timelines and is predominantly set in Paris, it’s also broken up into 5 parts. After the death of her father who was an antique dealer, Ellyn is left with no other surviving family members, other than a really mean stepmother, who forces her to sell her father’s home and pay off all this debts, one of her father’s final requests to her before he died is for her to travel to Paris and stay with his friend, which she does do. Here she makes a new life for herself and quite a few new friends. Most of the characters were likeable, but there were a couple of unsavoury ones that I really didn’t trust and I did feel quite fearful for Ellyn at times.

I absolutely loved the Paris setting. I found the descriptions of the jewellery making interesting and also the descriptions of all the yummy food made me feel ravenous.😋 This was very mysterious and there were quite a few surprising revelations at the end. Overall this was a really enjoyable debut novel and I look forward to reading future books by this author. 😊 Ali C
A wonderful short, and fast paced book to get hooked into.
Ellyn who is a silversmith, who can sense silver with her touch and can spot a fake, it’s a gift from being born on a stormy day, says her Grandma.
She works at her Dad’s antic shop alongside her awful step mother.
But one day her life changes and she runs. There is a gang after her, and she doesn’t know why, and her Dad tragically dies, but no body is found.
She settled in Paris and has a wonderful life, but this doesn’t last long- what does she have or know that’s so important?
I Had to find out and I couldn’t put this down.
There are so many twists and secrets throughout, which makes this story so gripping. 😊, Melina M
Set mainly in Paris, the storyline follows Ellyn, who is a silversmith. She can tell if something is real silver by touch. When her father, an antique dealer, is believed to be dead, she goes to Paris.
A lot of research has gone into the book. I was particularly intrigued by the way the jewellery was made. The surroundings and all the talk of food made me want to jump on a train to France. I loved how she learned to speak French through chocolate.
It is a very informative and entertaining read. I only intended to read a few chapters a day but I ended up finishing it the same day. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author. Zoe
